Before my family and I discovered that I had Muscular Dystrophy, I had a few blood tests. They showed that I had high cholesterol and high CK levels. In response to this, I began a strict food plan that my Mother called “Jack’s Rabbit Food plan.” The plan involved eating various colours of vegetables and fruit, getting protein from multiple sources, eating more healthy fats, stripping out fried food, going gluten-free, and eating small meals throughout the day instead of one main meal for each period of the day. How Did My Body Respond To This Food Plan?
The first two months on Jack’s Rabbit Food Plan were awful because I felt as if I was starving myself. I stopped snacking on junk food and never thought that I was able to become full. Little did I know that I was merely getting over my addiction to refined sugar and high sodium levels in junk food products. Following feelings of starvation, I began to have so much energy and felt happier, which was at least partly due to the new diet.
Am I Grateful For Following This Food Plan?
I thank my Mum for putting me down the path of eating healthy foods because I have never felt more fantastic in my life. As my Mother continued to buy me organic fruits, vegetables, and lean meat, I gradually ate healthier and had no desire to eat junk food. Looking back at the difficult decision my Mum made to force me onto this path of healthy eating, despite all my complaining, I would never change that decision. I am unaware of how I lived eating junk foods because it caused me stomach problems and did not give me the proper nutrients to recover.
In the future, my new diet has helped me tremendously because steroids tend to increase people’s appetites. If people continue to eat junk food with an increased appetite, it will only lead to increased trash consumption for your body. However, if you begin to eat healthier, you can control your appetite better and consume foods that your body needs to help itself recover. My belief regarding steroids is that if people are taking them, they should eat healthy foods to counter the harmful effects of steroids. However, there is currently a lack of research that distinguishes the millions of benefits healthy eating has; my experience has shown how positive the impacts are.
Should You Begin Eating Healthy?
I would advise everyone (no matter their situation) to try to eat healthier every day. The healthier you eat, the better your body will be able to function. While the path I took was sudden and eliminated foods, I came to prefer in one day. The easiest way to transition to a healthy diet is to change, remove, and introduce foods gradually. Either way, the path is arduous and will require a lot of willpower, but your body will be thanking you.
